Hang out with Al Capone, his ghost that is! A visit to San Francisco is not complete without a trip to Alcatraz Island, where its federal penitentiary was home to Al Capone for many years. Taking the boat to the island will give you some of the best views of the city and of the rock so make sure to bring your camera. Once on the island you'll have the chance to take a self guided tour of the rock, the yard, the cells in general and of course go inside the cell that Al Capone called his own for so long. You'll also learn the history of the island before and after it was a penitentiary.
